Senator Abdul Ningi has told the Senate how his colleague, former senator Bello Mandiya, died after slipping in his bathroom and hitting his head.
Mandiya's body was found about 72 hours later at his home in Abuja.
Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central, said he was in Saudi Arabia when his son called to tell him the news.
His son was among those who found the body on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Neighbours had noticed a bad smell coming from the apartment, which lived alone.
Ningi said a colleague last saw Mandiya at about 11am on Friday, September 4.
Mandiya was getting ready for Friday prayers and had taken a bath.
After he came out of the bathroom, he slipped and hit his head.
No one knew what had happened until the smell spread to nearby homes.
The chief imam of Apo also raised the alarm, because Mandiya had not joined the daily prayers for three days.
Those who went to the house broke down the door and found him dead in the bathroom.
Ningi said the tragedy shows that wealth and political office cannot protect anyone from the uncertainty of life.
He prayed for Mandiya's soul and for his family to find strength.
Mandiya was elected in 2019 on the APC ticket to represent Katsina South.
He served until 2023 and chaired the Senate Committee on Water Resources.
Before entering the Senate, he was chief of staff to former Katsina Governor Aminu Bello Masari.
