The traditional ruler of Daffo community in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, Da Jatau Yohanna Samkwar, has been killed by gunmen.
Residents suspect they were Fulani militia members.
The attack happened on Monday night at his residence, where he was shot in the leg and head.
He was taken to a hospital in Daffo, then referred to another facility, where he died on Wednesday.
Youth leader Malo Stephen said one of the monarch's sons had been kidnapped earlier but was released on Sunday.
The attackers returned to the residence days later.
Stephen said attacks in Bokkos are happening so often that people no longer report every incident.
Kefas Mallai, chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, said three people were also attacked while riding a motorcycle on a road linking communities in the area.
Two were reportedly killed and one was injured.
