Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has congratulated Dr Mustapha Abdullahi on his election as president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation.
The message was issued on Friday by the governor's Special Adviser, Ismail Isah.
Ododo said he was delighted by the result and is confident Abdullahi will push basketball development forward.
He pointed to Abdullahi's work as chairman of the Kogi State Basketball Association, including the annual DAM Foundation Basketball Championship, which gives young players a chance to compete and grow.
He described Abdullahi, a Kogi native, as an administrator with experience in human resource management.
He also cited his record in talent discovery, international exposure and professional networks.
Ododo referred to recent results by Nigeria's men's and women's teams, D'Tigers and D'Tigress, as a base for the new president to build on.
The governor said his administration will keep creating chances for young people to excel in sport, through local, national and international competitions.
He also pointed to the DAM Foundation championship in Okene, which he said draws thousands of fans and visitors to Kogi.
Abdullahi, Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, won 40 of the 48 votes cast.
