The National Association of Nigerian Students has asked NAFDAC to start random lab tests on drugs, food, drinks and packaged water sold near campuses.
The students say they are worried about health risks.
In an open letter to NAFDAC boss Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the group said reports from campus clinics and teaching hospitals show young people facing kidney and liver problems, seizures, stomach infections and suspected poisoning.
Some of these cases could be linked to fake medicines or unsafe food, though the letter did not include case data.
NANS also wants tighter checks on shops and markets near schools, public warnings, product recalls and punishment for anyone selling bad products.
The group blamed the regulator for not doing enough, saying lack of resources should not stop urgent action.
In its words, when the regulator is absent, the market becomes a place of harm and students become the test subjects.
