Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji Ojo says President Bola Tinubu has cleared promotion backlogs in the immigration service.

He also says Tinubu approved lifetime salaries for retired Comptrollers General and Deputy Comptrollers General.

He spoke at the closing of a border control training in Abuja on Friday.

He said more than 50,000 personnel have gained new ranks and offices in three years, and about 40,000 new recruits were brought in at once.

He added that salaries and allowances have gone up, including hazard and peculiar allowances.

Before this change, he said, retired Comptrollers General were getting a pension of about 130,000 naira, which he described as not encouraging.

The minister called Tinubu a leader who thinks about the future.

He said the government is building systems that will keep working long after Tinubu leaves office.
