Presidential candidate Peter Obi has asked Nigerians living in the UK to stop sending money home.
He told them to say no when relatives ask for help.
He spoke at a town hall meeting with his supporters in the UK on Sunday.
He also asked them to back his bid for the 2027 presidential election.
Obi said he wants a leader who has proven they can manage public money well.
He said public funds are being stolen and used to buy houses abroad, which is why schools and hospitals are not built.
Some people online did not like his message.
Critics said it is unfair to families who depend on money from abroad.
Others said his words were desperate and not the kind a leader should use.
