House Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu has sent his condolences over the death of Professor Gregory Ibe, founder and Chancellor of Gregory University in Uturu, Abia State.

Ibe ran for governor of Abia State in 2023 under the APGA party.

He also started Innov8 Hub, a start up centre in Abuja that helps young business owners grow.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Kalu called him a respected scholar, businessman, philanthropist and community leader.

He said Ibe believed education was the best way to empower people, and he built a university to prove it.

Kalu also said Ibe went into politics because he wanted to serve the people.

Kalu said Ibe's death is a huge loss to education, to his community, to Abia State and to Nigeria.

He sent his prayers to the family, staff and students of the university, and to his political friends.

He said Ibe's legacy will live on through the many lives he helped and the school he built.
