Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reportedly appointed Dr Hassan Sanuth as the new Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority.

This follows reports that the current MD, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, was asked to step down over the state's ongoing waste problems.

An online report says the government has not officially confirmed the change.

Sources said the governor was unhappy that rubbish was still piling up on main roads, residential streets and drains, even after he gave orders to fix it.

One source said Sanwo-Olu asked Gbadegesin to resign over the weekend.

Gbadegesin reportedly asked for more time.

He has also posted weekly updates online, saying some areas like Mile 2 have been cleared and that more trucks have been sent to other spots.

Sanuth holds a PhD in environmental microbiology from the University of Ibadan.

He has worked in public service for more than 23 years and was the Director of Sanitation Services in the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.

However, the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has said the appointment is not true.

He did not say anything more.
