INEC in Taraba State is asking politicians to stop making fiery statements.

It wants them to take complaints to the proper channels instead.

Resident Electoral Commissioner Saad Umar Idris made the call on Monday at a stakeholders meeting about getting ready for the January 2027 elections.

The meeting also covered voter card distribution and teamwork.

He also warned the media and civil society groups to check facts before they publish anything.

He said AI could make fake news and rumours spread faster, and that some people may use fake content to stir up tension between supporters and communities.

He told all parties to follow the election rules and promised that INEC will treat every party the same.

He said preparations are already underway, including mapping polling units across the state.

INEC may also hold a mock accreditation exercise in November 2026 and plans to work with the National Union of Road Transport Workers to move election staff and materials to every part of the state on time.
