The Kwara State Government has approved a higher professional allowance for nurses and allied health workers.

It has also moved medical laboratory scientists up from Grade Level 09 to Grade Level 10.

The changes came after a committee reviewed pay and working conditions for health workers in the state civil service.

The committee has finished its work and sent its report to the governor, who approved most of its recommendations.

Lab scientists who are now on Grade Level 09 will move up to Grade Level 10.

The move will count from the day each one was first appointed, so they keep their seniority.

Nurses and allied health workers will also get a new allowance table.

Rural health workers will be paid a rural allowance once their posting details are sent to the Office of the Head of Service.

The government did not say how much the new allowances will be or when they will start being paid.
