President Tinubu has defended one of his biggest decisions since taking office, insisting it was necessary to save Nigeria from financial trouble.

President Bola Tinubu says he removed the fuel subsidy on his first day in office so Nigeria would not go broke.
He said there is now nothing left to pay the subsidy with.
He spoke at a meeting with the City Boys Movement in Abuja on Monday.
He also brushed off opposition candidates who have promised to bring the subsidy back if they win in 2027.
He said his studies of the Bible and the Quran taught him not to trust such promises.
He added that his campaign will be built on fresh ideas to move the country forward.
Tinubu first announced the end of the subsidy at his inauguration in 2023.
He said then that the subsidy mostly helped a small group of people.
The opposition says it will bring the subsidy back to ease the pain of ordinary Nigerians.
