Six years after the Lekki Toll Gate shooting, Peter Obi says no Nigerian should be punished for asking for good governance.

In a post online, on Tuesday, the NDC presidential candidate marked the sixth anniversary of the incident on October 20, 2020.

He said peaceful EndSARS protesters were met with gunfire that night.

Lives were lost, many people were hurt, and the country is still left with questions about justice and accountability.

Obi said Nigerians must not get used to injustice.

He also said he still believes in a New Nigeria, where citizens are protected, young people are heard and leaders respect human rights.

He prayed for those who died and for their families.

An online report also recalled the findings of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry, which reported in 2021.

The panel found that army officers shot, injured and killed unarmed protesters at the toll gate.

It described the killings as a massacre in context and identified at least 48 protesters who were shot, injured or assaulted.
