Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has flagged off work on several roads in Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza local government areas.

The aim is to help farmers and traders move goods and people more easily.

The biggest project is a 58 kilometre road from Bunza to Zogirma and Makera.

The governor said it was not one of his campaign promises, but the government saw that it would help many communities trade and grow crops.

The contract went to China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited.

Other roads include the Unguwa Jeji Gayi to Diggi and Maidahini road, and access roads in Aliero Quarters, behind Azbir Arena, the old garage area behind Texaco, and from the Birnin Kebbi Police Station junction to Nagari College.

Idris said good roads bring communities closer and make business easier.

The state Commissioner for Works, Umar Muslim, said the contractors will be closely monitored to make sure the work meets the agreed standards.
