A 26 year old man known as Tari, popularly called Heavyweight, was killed with a machete on Sunday in Diema community, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
He was from Opu Nembe in Nembe LGA.
Community sources say the fight broke out between two rival youth groups.
Tari belonged to a group loyal to Ingo Ikele, the Amayanabo of Diema Brass.
The trouble started when youths loyal to Ikele went to inspect a piece of land that was reportedly set aside for an oil company's tank farm.
Another group, loyal to a rival traditional ruler, Baratuaipre Amaene, confronted them.
The argument turned violent, and Tari was badly cut.
He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police spokesperson, DSP Musa Mohammed, said calm has returned to the area and an investigation is ongoing.
No arrests have been reported yet.
