The Federal Road Safety Corps has ordered its officers not to escort politicians during the 2027 election campaigns.

The directive came from Zonal Commander ACM Abimbola Owolabi, RS6, during her first visit to the Cross River Command in Calabar on Wednesday.

Owolabi said patrol vehicles and sirens must not be used for political events, private functions, weddings or funerals.

Officers sent to campaign venues should only manage traffic, to prevent congestion and crashes.

They must not lead political convoys or act as escorts for politicians.

She also warned officers against extortion, corruption and unprofessional conduct, saying misbehaviour damages public trust in the corps.

She told them to avoid confrontations with motorists that could lead to injuries, and to stay calm in tense situations.

Other instructions included working with private operators to clear broken down vehicles from highways, responding quickly to emergencies and patrolling more to cut crashes.

She also urged officers to use the National Health Insurance Scheme and asked their wives, through the Road Safety Officers' Wives Association, to support them in their work.
