Pope Leo XIV will not need more treatment for lung cancer.

Surgery removed the cancer, according to the Vatican.

The Vatican press office shared the update in a medical bulletin on Wednesday.

Tests on the tissue removed last week confirmed the cancer was lung adenocarcinoma, and it had not spread.

Doctors say no more therapy is needed.

The pope announced on October 11 that he needed surgery for a lung nodule.

Doctors removed one lobe of his left lung at a hospital in Rome.

He went home on October 17 and led the Sunday Angelus prayer from a balcony the next day.

He will still need check ups.

Doctors plan to scan him every three to six months for the first few years.

The surgeon who led the operation says there is no medical reason to cancel his trip to South America next month.
