A High Court in Damaturu, Yobe State, has sentenced Abubakar Musa, 45, also known as Daddy, to death by hanging.

He was found guilty of killing his wife, Ammi Adamu Mamman.

The killing happened on January 4, 2024, at New Bra Bra Estate in Damaturu.

Police say the couple were in bed at about 4.48 am when Mamman was cut on the neck with a sharp object.

She bled heavily and died. Musa was arrested the same day and charged with culpable homicide.

The judge said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The lawyer for Musa says he still has the right to appeal within the time the law allows.

Mamman worked at Yobe State University and was buried in Potiskum on January 9, 2024.

The university, a women's rights group and Governor Mai Mala Buni all called for justice after her death.
