A 15 year old apprentice says he was locked up for five days at the Abagana Police Station in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State over a missing wristwatch.

He was released on Wednesday, October 21.

The boy works at a roadside tyre repair shop in Nawfia.

He says a wristwatch was delivered to the shop in June after a customer ordered it online.

He kept it on a tyre, and then it went missing.

In October, the customer came back, said the boy had stolen the watch and beat him before taking him to the police.

The boy says the police did not beat him.

His boss returned from the village and went to the police station to ask about him.

The boss was reportedly detained too and asked to pay 100,000 naira before he could leave.

A person who filmed the boy said he should have been taken to court if he was charged, not kept in custody.

The police spokesperson for Anambra, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said he was not aware of the case but would look into it.
