The Anambra State government has told residents not to panic about the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria.

Commissioner for Health Dr Afam Obidike spoke to journalists on Thursday.

He said the state has been preparing for some time.

Health workers are working with the World Health Organisation, UNICEF and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to watch closely for signs of the virus, especially around the airport and the state borders.

Obidike said there is no confirmed case in Anambra.

He added that health officers have been posted to Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri, to motor parks and to other busy areas to help spot any cases early.

He asked residents to stay alert, work with health officials and report any unusual symptoms to the nearest health facility.
