Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has explained why he is running against President Bola Tinubu in 2027, even though both men come from the South West.

He spoke on Thursday at an Allied Peoples Movement town hall in Akure, Ondo State.

He said the race is not about region.

It is about competence, fairness and national unity.

Makinde said he backed Tinubu in 2023, even though they were in different parties.

He believed Tinubu would form a government of national unity and competent people.

He also said that after eight years under Muhammadu Buhari, he and other PDP governors felt power should move to the South for fairness.

He says that did not happen. In his view, the government has not brought together capable people from across the country, and it has broken its promises.

He said the 2027 election is about rescuing and resetting Nigeria, not about where a candidate comes from.
