North Korea has denied that it was behind the theft of about $6.3 billion from the cryptocurrency exchange Binance.
Kim Yo Jong, the sister of leader Kim Jong Un, called the US claim absurd and a serious political provocation.
Her statement was carried by state media on Tuesday.
The FBI said on Saturday that North Korean state hackers were responsible for the October 29 attack.
It linked the theft to a group it calls TraderTraitor and asked crypto businesses to block wallets tied to the group.
Blockchain firm TRM estimated that about $6.36 billion moved out of Binance wallets across 10 blockchains, mostly within about 20 minutes.
It is believed to be the largest crypto theft on record.
Binance says it has set aside more than $6.34 billion of its own funds to cover the losses and is working with partners to recover the money.
About $3 billion of the affected assets have been frozen.
North Korea has denied past cyberattacks linked to its hackers.
Security experts say crypto theft has become an important source of money for the country, which faces heavy international sanctions.
