Suspected bandits abducted 14 students from an Islamic school in Pandogari, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

The students were helping their teacher, known as a Mallam, harvest maize on his farm in Tungan Bako village when the attack happened on Saturday.

The teacher was also taken.

Niger State Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the abduction on Monday.

He said the number is 14 students, not 50 as some reports claimed.

He said joint security teams have started rescue efforts and that more details will be shared later.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for SDP governorship candidate Jonathan Vatsa criticised Governor Mohammed Bago over insecurity.

He accused the governor of focusing on the 2027 race instead of protecting residents.

He also said security agencies in the state lack vehicles and other equipment.

On Friday, gunmen also kidnapped six mourners who were taking a woman's body to Okpoga in Benue State for burial.

The attackers left the body on the road.
