Sokoto Gov. has stated its committment towards working with partners on security improvement, backing local defence production and using modern technology to fight insecurity in the state and across the North West.
Colonel Ahmed Usman (retd), the governor's Special Adviser on Security Matters, said this while representing Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the Africa International Defence Exhibition, AFRIDEX 2026, at Eko Atlantic in Lagos.
He made the statement that was released in Sokoto, on Tuesday.
He said terrorism, banditry and organised crime require governments, security agencies, defence makers and tech firms to work closely together.
He urged African countries to invest more in local research and manufacturing so they rely less on outside suppliers for critical equipment.
Usman also said good security is about more than troops and weapons. Intelligence gathering, surveillance, communications, training and cooperation between agencies all matter.
He said Sokoto will support its security agencies, strengthen community based security efforts and provide resources to back federal action.
He hopes the exhibition will open doors for partnerships in intelligence, equipment making, border surveillance and drones.
He also complimented the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria for organising the event.
The Senate President opened the a show on behalf of President Tinubu.
The event ran from October 26 to 29.
