The NIMC agencys are stepping up action against banning people who illegally register NIN, change data without permission, or demand money from applicants.
Its Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit carried out an operation that led to several arrests in Gwagwalada and other areas.
Officers also seized equipment that was being used for illegal enrolment.
The commission says many of the problems NIN holders face come from people trying to skip the official process.
It says enrolment can only be done at its approved centres.
Anyone who needs to change their personal details should use its self-service modification platform.
NIMC also advises NIN holders to download the NINAuth app from the Apple App Store or Google Play to access security features and print their NIN slips.
Its Director General, Abisoye Coker Odusote, said the commission has zero tolerance for extortion and unethical practices.
