The Kano State Consumer Protection Council has sealed some shops at Singer Market and arrested traders accused of changing the expiry dates on expired milk powder so it could be sold again.

The raid followed a tip off from the market association.

Council officers investigated and made the arrests, then sealed the affected shops.

Jamilu Mustapha Yakasai, the council's Director of Public Enlightenment, have said that the operation was led by Director of Operations Auwalu A. Muhammad.

The council stated that it will not allow people to sell expired or tampered goods anymore in the state.

Executive Secretary Ibrahim Garba Muhammad warned that anyone caught changing expiry dates, labels or quality, or selling substandard goods, will be prosecuted.

He thanked the market traders for working with the council.
