The Ondo State Consumer Protection Agency, ODCCPA, has warned manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers to stop selling fake, counterfeit, adulterated, expired or substandard products.
Businesses that keep doing this will face legal action.
The agency's Executive Chairman, Oluyemi Fasipe, made the warning on on Thursday.
He said the agency is ready to carry out its duties under the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Law, 2026.
He said it will no longer allow business practices that put lives at risk, cheat customers or violate their rights.
Fasipe said the agency is acting on the direction of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
He said the agency will work with firmness and commitment to protect the people of Ondo State.
He specifically warned businesses against tampering with measurements, using misleading prices and taking advantage of buyers.
The agency plans to investigate, impose sanctions, seal premises where the law allows and take offenders to court.
Fasipe said the agency will use the powers given to it by the 2026 law, which the state assembly passed and the governor signed.
He said no business will get special treatment because of its money, status or political ties.
"There will be no sacred cows, no preferential treatment and no immunity based on wealth, status or connections," he said.
He added that the agency is not trying to stop legitimate businesses from making profits.
"Ondo State is open for legitimate businesses, not commercial exploitation," he said.
"You are free to make profit, but you are not free to endanger lives, deceive consumers or violate their rights."
Fasipe promised that the agency will be visible and firm in its work.
He said consumers come first.
The agency asked businesses across the state to learn the new law and follow it fully.
It also urged customers to stay alert and report unfair practices to the proper authorities.
