An opposition politician, Nkoyo Toyo, is running for governor of Cross River State.
She openly criticized Governor, Bassey Otu, saying that despite in position for 16 years, he has nothing to show for it.
Toyo is a former Nigerian ambassador to Ethiopia.
She made the claim in an interview in Calabar, where she also talked about her chances in next year's governorship race.
Toyo challenged Otu to name any projects he started during his more than 12 years in the House of Representatives and the Senate, or during his time as governor.
She said he should point to at least one project he has completed in his own community in Odukpani Local Government Area.
Absolutely none! To me, Otu has only wasted these 16 years in public office," she said.
Toyo also said she has contested elections seven times and beaten Otu twice.
Ekpenyong Akiba, Otu's Special Adviser on General Duties, rejected her claims.
He said Otu ran empowerment programmes and constituency projects while in the National Assembly, on a scale no other politician of that time had matched.
Akiba said the governor's administration has focused on finishing projects left unfinished by past governments and recovering state assets.
He listed road projects across the state's three senatorial districts, the repair of public buildings such as the state library and government houses, and the clearing of old state debts as key achievements.
