Police in Ogun State have arrested Akinola Damilare, popularly known as General Don, for allegedly pretending to be a military officer.

Officers arrested him at about 2am on Tuesday in Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta.

The arrest followed a tip from a community leader and quiet surveillance by the command's Special Weapons and Tactics Unit.

Police recovered a military face cap, three quarter military trousers and four photographs of him in military uniform.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi shared the details in a statement.

He said investigators are still looking into how the impersonation happened and whether anyone else was involved.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said the command is determined to stop impersonation and other crimes.

He asked residents to report any suspicious behaviour to the police.
