A 14 years old girl named Amina Ya'u was shot and injured after gunmen attacked farmers in Majelisa village.

The village lies on the border of Nasarawa and Plateau states.

The attack happened at about 6:30am on November 5, after reports of gunshots in the community.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter insurgency news outlet, that troops from Sector 9 of Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, were stationed at Jenta.

They rushed to the scene after a distress call.

When troops arrived, they found the girl with gunshot wounds.

The attackers had already run off.

Troops took her to the General Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State, for treatment.

Preliminary findings suggest the herders fired on the farmers after a disagreement over grazing.

Zagazola Makama reported that talks with Fulani leaders are underway to help security forces find the fleeing suspects.

Troops have increased patrols and stepped up their presence in the area to stop more violence.

The attack adds to a string of incidents in Nigeria's North Central region in recent months.

Reporters stated that for years farmers and cattle hearders have fought over land, causing deaths and destroying farms and livestock.
