Lagos State wants to build 19 gas fueling stations for cars and buses by March 2027 to avoid long fuel lines.
The goal is to make alternative fuel easier to get while cutting down crowds at the station.
An online reporter shared this on Friday that 5 CNG stations are opening up this November.
The state also aims to have 29 stations by the first quarter of 2028.
Tayo Gbajumo, Managing Director of Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation, gave the update at a media briefing on Thursday.
He spoke ahead of the 2026 Lagos Energy Summit, which runs from November 10 to 12.
Gbajumo said three CNG stations are already running in Agege, Ojota and Oshodi.
Five more are expected to be ready by November 12.
He said the state wants more motorists and transport operators to switch to CNG.
"By Q1 2027, we will have 19 stations across the state.
The idea is to continue expanding the network as we go further," he said.
He added that the state hopes to add another 10 stations by the first quarter of 2028 to cover more areas.
CNG has become more popular as petrol prices have risen.
However, few refuelling points have made queues long at existing stations.
Gbajumo admitted the problem and said more stations are needed to cut waiting times.
"Infrastructure is the most important thing.
That is why there are long queues, but we are trying to reduce them by increasing the infrastructure," he said.
He said converting a car to run on CNG costs between N700,000 and N1 million, depending on the equipment and standards used.
Filling a 60 kilogramme tank costs about N5,000 and can take a car roughly 200 kilometres, depending on how it is driven.
Gbajumo said Ibile uses European standard equipment.
He advised car owners to have conversions done by certified engineers for safety.
Energy and Mineral Resources Commissioner Biodun Ogunleye said the summit will bring together regulators, investors, energy experts, electricity distributors and innovators.
They will discuss power supply, renewable energy, metering, affordable energy and alternative transport such as CNG and electric vehicles.
Ogunleye said the state is working on a framework for a secure and efficient energy system.
He said the goal is better electricity access and less dependence on petrol and diesel.
Permanent Secretary Ibilola Kasunmu said the summit will focus on practical solutions to Nigeria's power problems and on turning talks into real action.
