Senator Ali Modu Sheriff who has been forcefully occupying the post of chairman of the PDP has been sidelined in the screening of Edo State gubernatorial candidates of the party.

The People's Democratic party, PDP under the distinguish chairmanship of Senator Ahamed Makarfi has concluded the screening of candidates for the Edo State Gubernatorial elections amidst the threats to his authority as posed by the former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff.
The names of the gubernatorial aspirants slated for the party primaries have been listed as:
1. Pastor Ize-Iyamu
2. Solomon Edebiri
3. Mathew Iduoriyekemwen.
Consequently a certificate of clearance has been issued to all three aspirants clearing them to participate in the forth coming primaries, the attempt by the former party Chairman Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to lure the aspirants to himself and further cause divisions suffered a major set back as the party in Edo State just like the 36 state chapters and all aspirants ignored him and aligned with the Independent National Electoral Commission recognized leadership of the PDP, according to unconfirmed reports.
The All Progressives Congress which is currently ruling in Edo state is also bracing up for its primaries ahead of the election in the oil-rich state later this year.
