A former chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Abuja chapter, has passed away today, June 16th, on his 50th birthday.

According to a report on Premium Times, Chuck Ehirim, the former chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abuja chapter, has passed away on his 50th birthday on Thursday.
Ehirim who was the chairman of the Abuja chapter of the NUJ between 2012 and 2015, graduated in 1992 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and worked with Tell magazine.
He later returned to the same university where he obtained a Master’s degree, and was the assistant editor, northern operations of the Niche Magazine before his death.
A journalist, Chucks Ohuegbe, said he had called Ehirim’s wife to wish him a happy birthday, but was informed he had passed away few hours back.
“I'm totally gutted!” Ohuegbe wrote on Facebook.
Amos Dunia, a friend to the late Ehirim, described the death as “shocking and devastating”.
