The Central Bank of Nigeria decided to extend the deadline for Bank Verification Number (BVN) registration till October 31, 2015.

Nigeria's apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has given Nigerians relief as it has extended the deadline for the Bank Verification Number (BVN) registration.

The registration exercise will now continue till October 31, 2015, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The deadline had earlier been set for Tuesday, June 30 leading many customers to besiege banks as the date drew near.

Many had earlier urged the CBN to review the deadline but the apex bank's Director of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Mu’azu reportedly said that no extension would be granted as sufficient time had been given for registration.

About 14 million Nigerians are said to have already registered for their BVNs.
