A shocking incident has seen two doctors arrested in Kenya after they kidnapped a 14-year-old girl. The doctors were arrested while performing abortion on the little girl.
The physicians from a hospital in Kakamega County, western Kenya are said to have abducted the minor on Tuesday night from her home and hid her in an unidentified health care facility, where they started performing the illegal procedure.
It was gathered that it was while searching for the girl that her relatives found out about the shocking news. News24 reports that a doctor at the hospital who was aware of the operation tipped off the police after being told of the consequences to be faced by the clinic in the event the matter was found out, who then arrived on time and saved the girl.
Police, after a query by News24 stated that the girl was five months pregnant.
"The two doctors are Paul Mugahi and Betty Halivura," Police constable Eric Ngare told News24 on phone.
"They were working on orders from a 35-year old man responsible for the pregnancy," he added.
The two were in custody at the Kakamega Police station.
Abortion is illegal in Kenya, with offenders serving as many as 20 years in jail if found culpable.
