A man is being made to answer for his evil deeds after he allegedly lured a young girl to an uncompleted building and r*ped her.
Haruna Tukur, a 24-year-old man, has been arraigned in court by the Kaduna State Government.
He was arraigned on Thursday, for allegedly r*ping a- six-year-old girl in Kaduna.
Vanguad reports that Tukur appeared before Justice M.T.M. Aliyu of the state High Court in Kaduna on a one-count- charge of r*pe.
The prosecutor, Mr Dari Bayero, told the court that the suspect committed the crime on February 5 in Malali village, Kaduna.
Bayero explained that the suspect, who was the victim’s neighbour, lured her to one uncompleted building in the area and had s*x with her.
“He has therefore committed an offence, which is punishable under Section 283 of the Laws of Kaduna State 1991,“ Bayero told the court.
Bayero applied for adjournment to present witnesses and medical reports to prove the case. However, Tukur pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The judge warned that the suspect might face a life imprisonment if found guilty to the charge.
Aliyu explained that the prosecution must prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused actually committed the offence.
He ordered that the accused be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to August 24 for hearing.
Bayero, who is the state Director of Public Prosecution, told newsmen after the hearing that the State Government was prosecuting rape cases to discourage perpetrators of the crime.
“Cases of r*pe are becoming rampant across the state, where toddlers are being r*ped anyhow.
“This is a cause of concern and such cases should be prosecuted diligently to ensure that perpetrators of the act are brought to book,“ he said.
