Indian telecommunications firm, Bharti Airtel has emerged the the third largest mobile operator in the world.
Bharti Airtel, on Tuesday, June 30, ranked the third largest mobile operator in the world with 303 million mobile subscribers, by the
latest global ranking data released by World Cellular Information Service (WCIS).
Airtel has operations in 20 countries across South Asia and Africa and moved up from fourth to third position ahead of China Unicom and
America Movil with 299.09 million and 274.14 million mobile subscribers in the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
China Mobile, according to WCIS, is the top mobile operator in the world with 626.27 million subscribers. Vodafone Group of UK ranks second with 403.08 million subscribers.
The chairman, Bharti Airtel, Sunil Bharti Mittal, said:“This is a major landmark in the journey of Airtel and underlines the strength of our business model and our brand that is loved by customers across 20 countries.
"Today, we seamlessly manage global scale operations in diverse geographies and deliver the same world-class services to each customer. This perhaps is one of our biggest achievements,” he added.
