As against popular reports that reggae star, Victor Eshiet, had been abducted by unknown gunmen in Akwa Ibom State, recent developments reveal that he was the Lagos State Police Command last Saturday.

There has been a controversy about the whereabout of U.S returnee and Nigerian reggae artiste, Victor Eshiet who was before now reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen. A recent revelation by the former President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, PMAN< Orits Williki,  through a telephone interview stated that he wasn't kidnapped but instead arrested by men of the Lagos state police command over allegations of fraud last Saturday.

According to The Punch, Victor Eshiet who was the leader of the defunt reggae group 'Mandators' recently returned to Nigeria from the United States of America where he had spent 12 years. He was nabbed by the policemen on his way from the burial ceremony of his elder brother Tony Eshiet in Awka Ibom. He was arrested and promptly airlifted to Lagos state to answer to the charges levelled against him.

“I have found out that Eshiet was arrested by the police and not kidnapped", Williki said "Apparently the policemen were mistaken for kidnappers because of the way they came and the fact that they were not dressed in uniforms”.

Although Williki learnt that Eshiet was being detained by the police somewhere in Ikeja, Lagos, he had yet to make contact with him as of the time of going to press.

“I still have not found the exact location where he is being held, but I will continue to try my best,” he said.

The reggae artiste is not new to the police cell as he was arrested and detained during a show he organized in December, 2014 by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad from the National Stadium Complex in Surulere over an alleged fraud case.

According to speculations, Eshiet's arrest seems connected with him mismanging a large sum of money allocated to him for the importation of trucks from abroad, which he couldn't keep up with.

Reports are still sketchy on the nature of his offence as moves made by the Punch correspondent to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu, on Tuesday failed.
