A little drama has played out at an office as a man teamed up with his wife to beat up and break their employer's head for owing them four months salary.

According to New Zimbabwe, Precious Phiri, 28, and husband Tichatonga Chidanyika, 36, went to the Mkaddesh Mine to demand their unpaid salaries which had not been paid for four months.

The manager told them to return after two days but Phiri picked a log and used it to assault him twice on the head before Chidanyika punched him.

Chidanyika then dragged the manager into a cabin at the mine where he (manager) stayed and took groceries worth $20 saying they were going to use the foodstuffs to survive whilst waiting for their salaries. He was left with devastating injuries.

However, the manager took the matter to the police, who later arrested the duo. The woman has now been sentenced by the court.

Giving the sentence, Mvuma court circuit magistrate Vimbai Makora sentenced Phiri to 20 months in jail but suspended four months on condition of good behaviour.

Phiri's husband Chidanyika however, absconded the court session for sentencing and was issued with a warrant of arrest.

But, Phiri pleaded that she was tired of working without pay adding she had been incensed by rumours that their manager was squandering money which forced her to act in an irrational way.

However, magistrate Makora said there were proper channels to be followed in the event workers were disgruntled instead of resorting to violence. She will now serve her sentence while police hunt for her husband.
