On Monday, July4, 2016, a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on declared Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Mohammed Liman ruled that the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to have dissolved the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff led executive of the party and appointed a Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Markafi was in order.

The court also declared that Makarfi is legally appointed by the National Convention and that the National Caretaker Committee is the authentic executive of the PDP.

It would be recalled that the National Convention of the party which held in Port Harcourt in May, sacked embattled acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and in his place appointed a 7-man caretaker committee headed by interim chairman, Ahmed Makarfi.
