A tragic incident has left a father dead after his 25-year-old son punched him to death on the street in broad daylight.

According to Dailymail, Mark English was put in a coma after being hit in Brisbane on Monday afternoon. His 25-year-old son Morgan Isles-English was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm afterwards.

Information revealed by the police alleged that the pair had a 'brief verbal exchange' before the younger English allegedly attacked his father. The 53-year-old died on Tuesday in hospital. Police are considering upgrading the charges against his son.

According to The Brisbane Times, he had not spoken to his son for four years before the incident.

Mr English was knocked out and lay on the street face down as his female partner, Varri Telfer, performed first aid and waited for an ambulance. He was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital with life threatening injuries and was placed in a medically induced coma.

On Tuesday Queensland Police confirmed the man had died.

Mr Isles-English, from Teneriffe, an inner suburb of Brisbane, allegedly fled the scene but was arrested on Monday night and charged with grievous bodily harm.

He paced, sobbed and hit his head on the glass of the dock after being led into Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

'I love you mum,' he told a woman in the public gallery, believed to be his mother, who mouthed back: 'I love you too.'

She refused to comment when approached by media outside the court.
