Following rumours that Goodluck Jonathan will be contesting the presidential elections in 2019, the former president has spoken out to address the issue.

Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria's former president, has denied reports that he will be contesting the presidential election in 2019.

The report, which was published by an online medium, stated that Jonathan declared interest to run for presidency in 2019 in Bayelsa yesterday.

It was also reported that Jonathan was inundated with calls from Nigerians “to recontest and salvage the economy from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)."

However, according to the Sun News, Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, has denied the former president is considering taking another shot at the presidency.

Eze said the former president never made any declaration on 2019 election, either in May or this month.

Jonathan contested the 2015 presidemtial election on the platform of the peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.

Before the final count at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, Jonathan called Buhari to congratulate him on his victory.
