REVEALED: President Buhari Appointed His Kinsman The DG Of SSS From Retirement

It has been revealed that the newly-appointed Director General of the State Security Service, Lawal Daura, had retired from the service before he was recalled by President Buhari.

According to revealing reports making rounds online, the newly-appointed Director General of the State Security Service, Lawal Daura, had retired from the service before he was recalled on Thursday by President Buhari to head the organisation.

The 62-year old was born in Daura (the same hometown of the President) Katsina State on August 5, 1953 and retired from the SSS in 2013, having reached the statutory retirement age of 60.

Instead of appointing a new DG from some of the highly qualified officers of the agency, the President rather went for his kinsman in a move many commentators are describing as nepotism.

It can be recalled that the President had removed Mr. Daura’s predecessor, Ita Ekpenyong, on Thursday, July 3. The former DG later spoke to reporters, saying he was not sacked but that he resigned at about 10 a.m. Thursday.

That claim could not be independently verified at this time. But a presidency source said even if he resigned, he was compelled to do so. “If he was instructed to submit a resignation letter, is that not a sack?”  the source said.
