The alleged transfer of 49 Boko Haram inmates from the North East prisons to Aguata Prison in Anambra State has continued to yield several agitations in the state.
Series of controversies have surrounded the reported transfer of 49 Boko Haram inmates from the North East prisons to Aguata Prison in Ekwuluobia, Anambra State which is yet to be officially confirmed by the Federal Government or the head of the Nigerian Prisons service.
The latest criticism of the alleged transfer of the prisoners is coming following the request of the Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Elder Chris Eluemuno who yesterday, Thursday, 2nd of July, demanded for the immediate and unconditional relocation of the Boko haram inmates out of the state.
This was revealed in a press briefing with newsmen who gathered at his house in the state.
“Our position is that it is not acceptable to us having them here, if what President Mohummadu Buhari has to give us as dividend of democracy is Boko Haram terrorists, it is very, very unfair", Eluemuno said.
He stated that the Aguta prison which the Boko haram inmates are currently confined is not a maximum prison with the necessary security facilities to contain criminals of their level. According to him, that action is against the dividends of democracy the Igbos expect from President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also urged the president to build a camp and keep them there if the North East prisons are running out of space. He ended by accusing successive administrations in Nigeria of taking the Igbo tribe for granted which could lead to bigger consequences on the state of unity in the country.
