The Nigerian Petroleum Resources Minister, Mrs. Diezani ALison Madueke has been elected as the very first female president of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries - OPEC.

 
The Nigerian Petroleum Resources Minister, Mrs. Diezani ALison Madueke has been elected  as the very first female president of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries OPEC.

She was elected president of OPEC today, Thursday during an ongoing  166th General Meeting of OPEC in Vienna, Austria.

She is to replace the former president of OPEC, who happens to be the Libyan Vice Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish.

Prior to the election today, she was the alternate president of OPEC and was expected to immediately start to serve her one year term.

The petroleum body is expected to take decisions that would stop the dwindling price of crude oil in the 166th meeting.

Al-Ahirishhad in his opening remarks started that ample supply, moderate demand, a stronger US dollar and uncertainties about global economic growth has been the major cause in the fluctuating state of crude.
