A police dog has shocked people after it turned on its own trainer in a public place while being drilled.
A police officer got the shock of his life after a police dog appeared to have turned on him.
The dog attacked the policeman while taking part in an exercise drill ahead of the Rio Olympics.
A man pretending to be a suspect is seen running from a white car with a padded guard on his arm as the K9 officer runs after him and attacks.
As the dog's trainer attempts to intervene and let the animal know the exercise is over, the dog lunges at him.
The trainer is thrown to the ground with the dog pushing its front legs down on his trainer's chest to stop him from getting up.
Another officer then rushes to his colleague's aid and forcefully pulls the K9 officer off, before putting it back on a leash.
The video was posted to LiveLeak early on Friday morning and has been viewed 29,000 times.
One online commenter suggested the reaction wasn't entirely the dog's fault, but occurred as a result of poor handling by the trainer.
"The trainer spooked the dog by touching its stomach when he was reaching for the leash. The fault was with the trainer more than the dog," the commenter wrote.
