A little girl who was only just having a good time with others in a zoo, has suffered a really tragic fate.

A seven-year-old girl tragically died while visiting a zoo.

She died after an elephant hurled a rock at her head.

According to Metro UK, the schoolgirl was posing for a picture with her family next to the enclosure in Rabat Zoo, Morocco, on Tuesday afternoon when tragedy struck.

As the dad reportedly lifted the girl onto his shoulders, the elephant picked up a large stone with its trunk and threw it into the air.

The rock hit the girl on the back of the head, immediately knocking her unconscious.

She was rushed to hospital, but sadly later died of her injuries.

Footage shot by a bystander and posted on social media shows the unnamed girl being tended to by staff, as her distraught family gather around her.

A spokesman for the zoo offered his condolences to the girl’s grieving family, but appeared to deny her death was the zoo’s responsibility.

He added that there had been no security breaches, and that she had not crossed into a protective area outside the enclosure.

‘Accidents of this type are rare, unforeseeable and unusual,’ he said in a statement, Morocco World News reported.

‘Accidents of this nature have happened in international zoos, most recently in Disney World Orlando and the Cincinnati Zoo in the United States.’
