About 1.4 million persons have been displaced following the unending insurgency and communal clashes in the six North-east states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.

According to recent reports, about 1.4 million persons have been displaced following the unending insurgency and communal clashes in the six North-east states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.

The June 2015 Displacement Tracking Matrix released by the International Organization for Migration in conjunction with National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has revealed this.

According to the report released in a signed statement by Sani Datti, the senior information officer of NEMA, Borno State has the highest number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with 1,002,688, followed by Yobe with 125,484 and Adamawa with 113,437). Bauchi has 76,504, Gombe 16,984 and Taraba 20,501.

The report said the total number, 1,385,298, showed that there was a slight fall in the number of IDPs compared to the last report released in April 2015, noting that this was due to movements of people to their homelands especially as witnessed in Adamawa State where the IDP population has dropped.
