According to the report from a survivor of Boko Haram attack in Borno, the sect could be experiencing a financial downturn after they have resorted to selling goats and other stolen animals at the market to raise funds for petrol.

According to Sun news, President Muhammadu Buhari's claim that Nigeria is winning the war against terrorism could be valid as the sect is currently experiencing hard times with their finances.

Things took a new turn when members of the sect started selling stolen items to their real owners when the people started returning to Kukawa (a serene community around the Lake Chad bordering Niger) before the start of Ramadan. The funds were said to be needed to raise money to fuel their vehicles and motorcyles as petrol in Kukawa costs N1,000 per litre.

An eyewitness of one of  their attacks,  Danladi Umar reveals that; “They took away our goats, chicken and other livestock after attack on Kukawa and other neighbouring villages. They also seized our property, claiming Allah has bestowed these things to them.

Last week Wednesday in the Kukawa area of Borno state could be referred to as a day of blood as Boko Haram insurgents launched a massive attack on the peaceful Kukawa. The people were assembling at the major mosques for the break of the Muslim fast when a surprise attack was launched on them. They were assembled at the mosque and sporadic gunshots unleashed on them. The escaping people were not spared as they were pursued and shot at. They also set fire to several houses. A source revealed 97 people were killed.

Danladi Umari who appeared famished shortly after arriving Maiduguri following two days of trekking in the bush, said the casualty figure was higher, insisting that about 120 people were massacred.

“It is more than 97, there are corpses everywhere, about 120 people may have died. The insurgents burnt many houses and wrecked havoc in Kukawa,” Umar said.

Kukawa which is close to Baga has been severely attacked in the past and as normalcy was returning to the serene area, progress has been disturbed again by the ravaging insurgents.
