The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Anambra State Command, has arrested a 31-year-old man, Vincent Chidiebere, who was allegedly in possession of 25.2 kilogrammes of Methamphetamine estimated at N1.8 billion.

Parading the suspect who hails from Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State at the NDLEA office in Onitsha, the State Commander of the agency, Mr. Sule Momodu, described the substance as the most dangerous hard drug.

According to Punch, the suspect was arrested at Ugwuoba, Enugu State, a border town with Anambra State, between 11am and noon on Thursday following a tip-off.

Momodu said investigations were ongoing on the matter, adding that there would be no hiding place for drug offenders in the state.

He said, “Investigations are ongoing; as soon as we finish, we will charge the suspect to court. Methamphetamine is the most potent illicit drug in the world. The presence of it should give any state or country a serious concern.

“If criminals have access to this drug, you can imagine what harm this will cause in the society. It produces a lot of financial gains and they can use the proceeds to alter our political landscape.

“We are ready to fight this scourge because if we fail to tackle it now and allow them (drug barons) to take the space, it will spell doom not only to Anambra, but the entire country.

“So we don’t have a choice but to fight it headlong. If we allow this to get into the hands of criminals, they can perpetuate any form of harm on the society.”
