Ex-militants battle police to take over government house

Ex-militants in Akwa-Ibom state have invaded the State government house and engaged the police in a fierce shoot-out after the government of Ben Ayade allegedly refused to pay them their allowances and entitlements.

The ex-militants stormed the government house to take over it as residents have been warned to avoid Barracks Road, Brooks Street and surrounding.

According to Sitippe News, the militants might take over the government house if care is not taken.

It would be recalled that in July, the militants stormed the governor’s office in Calabar demonstrating against the non payment of their entitlements for 10 months totaling over 15 million Naira and blockading the entrance as well as disrupting traffic in the process.

The state government however denied owing the militants, claiming if it did, there was no point demonstrating as the state is currently facing economic challenges.

The governor’s spokesperson also denied reports of an invasion.
